Pampore, Jun 21 (KNO): The residents of Bathen village in Khrew, Pampore hamlet of South Kashmir's Pulwama district are up in arms against the Jal Shakti department for failing to provide them with adequate supply of water to the area. The residents told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a small spring is there in the area but it has very less water which is supplied to Mohalla wise for just few minutes. “We get water supply for just a few minutes only. We aren’t not able to get more than a few litres of water,” the residents said. They further added that there are some households who aren't even getting these few litres at all. Locals said that they have brought this issue in notice of higher ups at several times but to no avail. They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals can heave a sigh of relief. An official of Jal Shakti department said that three stage lifting scheme is coming up in the area to provide drinking water facilities to Bathan, Baddalav and Bijnari villages of Khrew area. He added that no perennial source of water in these areas so only option there is of ground water but bore wells aren't giving the adequate water needed to cater all households. “As a long term measure, the department of Jal Shakti have already framed a proposal of providing adequate quantum of water to the said area from an already explored (drilled) production well at Khrew”, he said. “In this scheme, water shall be lifted from production well of Khrew and shall be stored in a service reservoir meant for the area through a three stage lifting mechanism.” They said the work on the said scheme will be started in next month and will provide water for three habitations in adequate quantity and they won't face water crisis for around next two to three decades, he added—(KNO)
